Two cameras have subscription fine print
Most gifts on this list work with no subscription — the hardware stands alone. Two exceptions: the Arlo Pro 5S and Nest Doorbell need their optional cloud plans (Arlo Secure / Nest Aware) for video history and smart alerts. Both still stream live and send motion alerts without one, but if the recipient wants to rewind footage, that's a plan you'll want to know about.
Check the ecosystem first
